Legal Guidelines

This is dull but necessary. The essential point is that you need to own what you make and you need to give The 10 Sec Film Fest the rights to show your film. The details are contained our terms and conditions that you need to agree to to join and submit your film,

Try and keep things simple, if you are filming yourself and a few friends in a public place or in your home, and your film has no music, there is very little paper work. The more complex the shoot, the more paperwork you will have to deal with.

The main points to consider when you make you film are:

  • Do not infringe anyone's copyright. :You need to own what you make and you need to have th erights to use any music. No copyrighted music, no copied written material, lines from movies, quoted from books etc etc. Your work is your work, someones else's work belongs to them.

  • Get release forms from those featured in front of the camera and from the main contributors. Your film may just be you and a few friends but you will all need to sign the release forms that can be downloaded below.

  • Locations. If you are shooting on private property - a club, station, abatoir, cement factory, roller disco etc you need permission and for the owners or their representatives to sign a location release. If you are filming on public property this is generally not a problem.
  • NO LOGOS. Avoid any trademarks, logos, posters, billboards, labels etc.
